I LIKE IT TO BE A PLAY EVERY AFTERNOON
CAL ARTS

Los Angeles/Edinburgh - CalArts Festival Theater presents I LIKE IT TO BE A PLAY EVERY AFTERNOON, containing two plays by Gertrude Stein as interpreted by an ensemble of graduate acting students from the CalArts School of Theatre.

I LIKE IT TO BE A PLAY EVERY AFTERNOON is a whimsical and sardonic take on modern life about THESE PEOPLE in THIS ROOM. It is a thoughtful, physical, and irreverent adventure where the characters play in the space between sense and language. While creating meaning was not the ensemble's initial intention, themes continue to emerge through joyful collaboration and engagement with the audience. These pieces speak to bourgeois ache, the human desire to BE WITH, and the cry from artists everywhere, "Look at us! Be with us! We are fun AND useful!"

CalArts Festival Theater has partnered with Venue 13 for 6 seasons to expand programming to include the experimental work of the students and recent alumni of the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California, USA, 35 miles north of Los Angeles.

California Institute of the Arts, CalArts, is the first art institute in the United States to offer BFAs and MFAs in both the visual and performing arts, CalArts is dedicated to training and nurturing the next generation of professional artists, fostering brilliance and innovation within the broadest context possible.
