THE DAWN OF QUIXOTE
JULI CROCKETT

"An ingenious adaptation… a sort of "Waiting for Godot" meets "Don Quixote."
- Donna Walker, KPFK

Written and directed by singer/philosopher Juli Crockett (with continual reference to Unamuno), the Dawn of Quixote: Chapter the First is an eclectic musical exploration of the first chapter of Don Quixote starring Shaughn Buchholz (Scrubs) as Quixote, Christopher Goodson (Cold Case) as Sancho, and Lisa Dee (Evangenitals, Killsonic) as Dulcinea.

Greatly inspired by Unamuno y Jugo's tome "Our Lord Don Quixote," Crockett's interpretation takes a telescopic look at the moment in which-- after reading too many books of chivalry--the Man of La Mancha decides to become a Knight.

Driven mad by the beauty of language, philosophy, ideas and ideals, the gentle Quixote knows he must take action and live the dream. The dramatic inner space in which his decision is made is where all things become possible.

The Dawn of Quixote was first performed, for fun and for free, in an empty storefront in Los Angeles. Cal Arts graduates Irina Kruzhilina created the costumes and Melissa Ficociello designed the set. A haunting crowd favorite, the play was then featured two consecutive years in Los Angeles' cutting edge theater festival "Edgefest," and "Edgefetish" and was the grand opener for the Saturday Explorer Series at the 24th Street Theater in Los Angeles, CA. Recently, Crockett's piece it was performed once more as a radio drama on KPFK-FM's Pacifica Performance Showcase.

The live, original score is performed by The Evangenitals, the art-county, hillbilly-funk, freak-folk band, for which Crockett is lead vocalist and principal songwriter. Described as "Cosmic Square Dance" and "Hillbilly Jazz," the music of Juli Crockett and The Evangenitals breaks out with a new style of Southern music. Based in the roots of Country, the band incorporates a wide variety of sophisticated influences, instrumentation and styles. The result is a genre-hopping bull ride that has music fans and critics buzzing in Los Angeles.

The Evangenitals are Juli Crockett (vocals, guitar, bass), Lisa Dee (vocals, percussion, guitar), David Hurlin (drums, percussion), Henry Bermudez (lead guitar, eye candy), Andrea Baker (fiddle, gypsy soul), Ari DeSano (accordion), and Matt Ticciati (bass, gypsy guitar).

This is the group's first adventure to Edinburgh. Feel the magic.
